Sanju Samson once again has become the center of attention as he was again snubbed from the Indian squad. Samson, despite being the perfect replacement for Shreya Iyer who was ruled out of the ODI series against Australia, was not named as his replacement by the BCCI. Iyer had complained of lower back pain on the third day of the fourth final match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Sanju Samson is such a cricketer who has a large fan base in India. Nevertheless, when it comes to representing the country, things get more tricky. Sanju has won several titles on the home circuit. Sanju has done it all, from leading his stateside to the Ranji final to taking his IPL franchise, the Rajasthan Royals, to the season finals in 2022. Although being a really skilled cricketer, he has not performed well on the international level, despite the numerous opportunities he has had.
Sanju Samson had also faced disciplinary action back in 2016 in punishment from the KCA for reportedly leaving the match location without alerting team management. There is a question mark of him being continuously ignored by the team of selectors. Nobody knows the cause whether it is discipline, attitude, or whatever.
Samson amassed 284 runs in 10 matches in 2022 at an average of more than 70 but he hasn’t been picked in any of the ODI series in 2023 so far.
Akash Chopra also shared his views on Samson: As to why he is being ignored. “There is a cult following for Sanju. When he’s in form, he makes batting appear effortless. He is very appealing and led his side to the Ranji and IPL finals. He had various prospects for India but did not make use of them. And this is a reality that fans are unaware of. “Sanju understands that he would have limited possibilities in the present setup,” Chopra said on ‘TRS Clips’ to YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia.
