You know you are already a class act when a legend lauds heaps of appreciation towards the caliber and talent of yours. Sunil Gavaskar, one of India’s legendary batters ever did the same and threw plenty words of value to the young and raw talent of the star in making – Shubman Gill.
The Punjab born batter has been in terrific touch lately and his performances in white ball cricket is what earned him a spot in the Indian squad for the 4-match Test series of the Border-Gavaskar trophy 2023. Having made his Test debut in December 2020 in the previous BGT series, Shubman Gill is turning out to be a massive addition for the Indian team.

After KL Rahul’s disappointing performances in the first 2 tests at Nagpur and Delhi respecitvely, 23-year-old Gill finally got his chance. He opened alongside captain Rohit Sharma at Indore but failed to capitalize on both the innings, however, at Ahmedabad, Gill replicated his white ball performances.

But the main focus has been Shubman Gill. Sunil Gavaskar who is mainly an analyst and commentator had positive words for the 23-year-old. Gavaskar was very impressed with Gill’s knock and affirmed that the batter has a lot in store and said that Gill should score many more centuries and score 8,000, 10,000 and 15,000 runs.
“Yeh aapki doosri century hogi. Century ka count aapka aur badhte rahe…8,000, 10,000, 15,000 run karein aap ( This is your second century.”
73-year-old Gavaskar also shed light on Gill’s confidence as an individual and also praised his technicalities – “Shuffling back and forth against pace bowlers isn’t very easy. But he picks the lines and lengths really well. Kisi bhi ballebaaz ke paas agar time ho, usne agar apne career ko sambhaala, toh aage jaake 8-10,000 run aaram se kar lega.”
