During the 2nd ODI of the 3-match ODI series between India and Australia here at Indore’s Holkar Stadium, Opener Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer who came out at number 3 today, scored wonderful centuries today to help India strengthen their grip on the series against Pat Cummins’ side.
India won quite comprehensively in the first ODI at Mohali after winning the toss and bowling first. KL Rahul’s side were able to chase down a total of 277 with 6 balls to spare. That match gave India a lot of confidence and it also offered Ruturaj Gaikwad a great platform to deliver while Suryakumar Yadav whose numbers in ODIs look surprising, also got some good momentum heading into the World Cup.

Gaikwad made full use of the opportunity he received of opening alongside Shubman Gill by scoring 71 while Surya amassed a much needed 50. 2 days later at Madhya Pradesh, Head coach Rahul Dravid received another major boost after both Iyer and Gill scored their centuries.
In the absence of Virat Kohli, Iyer was promoted to number 3 instead of his preferred number 4 spot. It was a good opportunity for him to get some game time and get more balls to face in order to get some form and runs under his belt.

Iyer reached his century before Gill did and the 2 were somehow complimenting each other. Both of them somewhat accelerated their innings slowly and took on the Aussie balling attack. Iyer departed after scoring 105 while Shubman Gill departed for 104.
At the time of writing India are 310/4 with KL Rahul and Surya Kumar at the crease.
