From Humble Beginning to India’s Basketball Glory: Who is Harsh Dhaka who led India undefeated Journey in FIBA Asia Cup Qualifier

The Basketball Glory in India is Back, and credit should be given to some of the notable performances from players who have collectively guided India in their undefeated journey so far in FIBA Asia Cup Qualifier.

One man who played an important role in India’s Brilliant Performance is none other than Harsh Dagar,19 year old boy who came from Humble Background have shown true quality of becoming Champion Player in future.

Talking about his Journey he stated ” I had a difficult Childhood as my mother being single parent used to work as tailor and stich clothes for others at home. It was source of Income for us to Survive. I became more determined and decided only Basketball I want to play for rest of my life it will give me fame and source of Income” Dagar said while Talking to distinct media outlets.

His life changed when he was picked by NBA Residential Academy in Greater Noida on full scholarship in 2018. He thought 2020 would end his career and dream for Basketball due to COVID-19.

He stated that Financial struggle from my Mother have motivated me to do well in Basketball where we both brothers crafted a Basketball Hoop in my Gurgaon Baliyawas Village.

The Basketball Hoop which we crafted had Money written on top of it, which reminds us about our tough times, and money problems where we used to work extra hard to achieve success for India and earn money to overcome all financial hardships.

Harsh Dagar journey from grassroot level from top tier have been an absolute roller coaster ride, he represented Uttar Pradesh in Under 13 category subsequently he secured bronze medal and participated in NBA Junior Basketball Championships in Orlando. He was also member of Indian team to win Gold medal in South Asian Games in Nepal.

The NBA Academy tag and his performances in the domestic level ensured him India tag.

In October 2022, He played an important role in securing silver medal for India in FIBA 3 by 3 Asia Cup held in Malaysia ultimately qualified for 2023 World Cup.

With this remarkable achievement, India team qualified for World Cup in 88 years history.

Winning silver medal for India in FIBA 3 by 3 Asia Cup gave them much needed financial security and job in Uttar Pradesh Police where he was recently promoted as Sub Inspector.

He credited Coach Scott Fleming where he developed team bonding among players which helped them to subsequently grow in times to come.

Coach Scott brought system, which helped us to grow.

Indian Basketball is on the rise and credit should be given to stakeholders who have worked hard behind the scenes to make this entity extremely popular.
