“Did Warne ever want a rest and give Stuart McGill a chance”- Nathon Lyon hits out at Shane Warne

After showing strong performances in England, Australia have continued to sparkle in Test Cricket, winning back-to-back test matches against New Zealand. They are currently leading the series 2-0 with one solitary match left to be played at Sydney Cricket Ground.

James Pattinson dented New Zealand’s top order while Nathon Lyon went through New Zealand’s middle order as Blackcaps were bundled out for just 240 runs on day 4 and handed Australia their second win of the series.

The third test will be played at Sydney Cricket Ground and with the ground having the history of aiding spin bowling, Shane Warne has urged the selectors to give Nathon Lyon rest for the third test and make way for uncapped Mitchell Swepson.

To this Lyon hits back at legendary spinner asking the Shane Warne if he ever rested to give Stuart McGill a chance in his career.

“Did Warney ever want rest and give Stuart MacGill a go? I won’t be resting. I haven’t met any Australian cricketer yet who would like to be rested. It’s that hard to play Test cricket but it’s pretty rewarding as well. Any opportunity you get to play for Australia means the world to us”. Nathan Lyon was quoted as saying by ESPN Cricinfo

Mitchell Swepson has been on fringes of Australian cricket team for a long time now. He was drafted in the side against India and Bangladesh in 2017, however, didn’t get to feature in the eleven.

While Lyon has opposed the idea of resting in the third test, he expressed his excitement on bowling alongside a leggie in the match.

“I really enjoy bowling with another spinner as well. We get through our overs quite quickly and we feel like we can build some pressure here and there. If Sweppo does get his opportunity, to play with a leg spinner would be pretty exciting. But it’s not up to me to make that call.”

Nathon Lyon has been a prolific bowler for Australia in Test Cricket. The finger spinner has claimed as many as 380 wickets in  95 test matches played so far in his illustrious career.
