BCCI Sends Proposal To BCB For Day-Night Test Match At Eden Gardens

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has put forward a proposal in front of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to turn the second match of the upcoming India vs Bangladesh test series into a day-night fixture.

Sourav Ganguly, ever since he has held the chair of the BCCI president, has put a lot of emphasis on the day-night test matches and he has made the move in that direction at the earliest.

The BCB is yet to agree on the proposal, but they have confirmed that they have received the proposal and they are thinking about it at the moment.

According to BCB, it’s not an administrative decision that they can take all by themselves. It’s a technical decision and they can take it only after consultation with the cricketers as well as with the coaching staff.

Nizamuddin Chowdhury, the chief executive officer of the BCB, insists that pink ball is not something that the cricketers generally play with. It’s either red ball or white ball. It’s important for the board to know if they are prepared to play with the pink ball suddenly.

“At first we have to take the consent of the players and members of the team management about it. It is totally a technical matter and we have to consider that there is preparation required to play a test with a pink ball.”, Chowdhury said while talking to the reporters.

Bangladesh had denied playing the day-night test match against New Zealand last year stating the same reason that they were not “prepared”. It will be interesting to see if they say “no” to BCCI as well.

BCCI itself was not too keen on day-night test cricket in the past. They also had an opportunity to play a day-night test match on their previous tour of Australia, but they didn’t accept the proposal made to them by Cricket Australia (CA).

However, the new hierarchy of the BCCI, under Sourav Ganguly, has come with a different point of view and they are now pushing for day-night test cricket.
