The Asian Games 2023, set to take place in Hangzhou, People’s Republic of China, from September 23 to October 8, 2023, is anticipated to be a riveting showcase of Asian sports prowess. Following its postponement from 2022 due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, this continental extravaganza will encompass 40 sports, with elite athletes from across Asia vying for supremacy.

In the realm of Indian sports, the Asian Games has always held a special place, and the nation’s participation has burgeoned over the past decades. India’s representation in the upcoming event is substantial, with a contingent of 634 athletes poised to compete in 38 diverse sports. Athletics will lead the way with 65 participants, illustrating the nation’s commitment to track and field excellence.

Recalling the 2018 Jakarta edition, India’s presence was noted in 36 sports with a contingent of 570 athletes. The forthcoming 19th Asian Games, dubbed the “19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022,” serves as a testament to the resilience of sports and the human spirit, having been deferred by a year due to the pandemic’s ramifications.

Among the sports that generate intense fervor in India, hockey stands out as a perennial favorite. The Indian men’s hockey team roster for the Asian Games 2023 includes an assemblage of skill and talent: Abhishek, Gurjant Singh, Hardik Singh, Harmanpreet Singh, Jarmanpreet Singh, Shamsher Singh, Mandeep Singh, Manpreet Singh, Sanjay,  Sukhjeet Singh, Sumit, PR Sreejesh, Krishan Bahadur Pathak, Vivek Sagar Prasad, Varun Kumar,  Amit Rohidas, Nilakanta Sharma, Lalit Kumar Upadhyay.

Simultaneously, the Indian women’s hockey team comprises players who embody dedication and sportsmanship: Deepika, Lalremsiami, Monika, Navneet Kaur, Neha, Nisha, Savita Punia, Sonika, Udita, Ishika Chaudhary, Deep Grace Ekka, Vandana Katariya, Vaishnavi Vitthal Phalke, Bichu Devi Kharibam, Sushila Chanu Pukhrambam,  Sangita Kumari,  Nikki Pradhan,  Salima Tete.
