What is the highest team total by Pakistan in the history of the T20 World Cup?

Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afridi, T20

T20 cricket is evolving with each passing day, and the standards are just getting higher and higher. A score of 200 seems like something very normal and is only a par score with the level of cricket that is being played in the world these days. With the T20 World Cup 2024 also around the corner, you can expect a flurry of big scores by teams in the tournament.

Here we will discuss the match where the Pakistan national cricket team registered their highest ever team total in the history of the Men’s T20 World Cup. This was in the year 2016 in a match against Bangladesh in Mirpur, where the Pakistan batters chose violence and amassed a huge total against their fellow Asian country.

Electing to bat first after winning the toss in the match, Pakistan began on a positive note as Ahmed Shehzad and Sharjeel Khan, the openers, started off with boundaries, showing intent of scoring big runs. Sharjeel fell early in the match, but then came Mohammad Hafeez, as he stitched an excellent partnership with Shehzad of 95 runs, where both batters attacked Bangladeshi bowlers.

Ahmed Shehzad scored 52 runs in 39 balls, whereas Mohamamd Hafeez made a score of 64 runs in 42 balls. The score was 121 when the Pakistan captain, Shahid Afridi, came to the pitch and provided the much-needed impetus to the innings to take them to an above-par total back then.

Afridi played a blinder of 49 runs in just 19 balls with four boundaries and four huge sixes. He displayed his finishing ability to everyone that day and took Pakistan’s total to a record 201/5 in 20 overs.

The Pakistan bowlers easily defended the score as the Bangladesh batters could not get going even once in their innings. Shahid Afridi and Mohammad Amir took two wickets each, as they were the heroes in bowling.

Shahid Afridi won the player of the match award for his phenomenal all-round play in the match, where Pakistan recorded their highest ever team total in the history of the T20 World Cup.
