Two Potential Replacements For Maguire At Leicester

Leicester City sold Harry Maguire last summer to Manchester United. The move was not shocking as Maguire has blossomed into one of the best English centre-backs. One, however, has to question whether the move was actually a downgrade. Leicester are currently in second place on the Premier League standings and while they will probably not win the league this season, they look well on course to qualify for next seasons Champions League.

Caglar Soyuncu has so far done well as a first-choice centre-back since being promoted this season following the departure of Maguire. The Foxes do however still need to bring in a player who can provide valuable cover and competition and serve as a replacement for Maguire. The following are two players that they can consider.

1.Jamaal Lascelles

Lascelles is probably one of the most under-appreciated England defenders. He has been solid for the Magpies during recent seasons and has captained the club brilliantly. He would fit in well into the Foxes setup. Lascelles may just be open to a move. He is unlikely to win anything major at Newcastle as the club has a very unstable structure. A move to Leicester could bring out the best in Lascelles. It would also improve his chances of finally winning a call-up to the England squad.

2. Nathan Ake

Ake is a brilliant talent. Manchester City are reportedly also considering him as a potential replacement for Vincent Kompany which says a lot. The Dutchman is arguably one of the best centre-backs outside the traditional top six clubs. Ake has three years left on his current contract at the Vitality Stadium and will hence not come cheap. Ake could be a good signing for Leicester and if they sign him, they will show that they are strongly against becoming a feeder club for bigger teams.
