Asia Cup 2023 concluded yesterday as India became continental champions for the 8th time in their history. They defeated reigning champions Sri-Lanka by 10 wickets at Colombo’s iconic R Premadasa Stadium in a shocking turn of events where the home team was all out for just 50 runs.
The continental event served as a good period of preparation for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, starting next month in India. Total of 13 matches were played in the tournament and all the 6 teams played some exciting cricket throughout the course of 2 weeks at Pakistan and Sri-Lanka.
The 2023 edition will be remembered for a long time because of the way the tournament was completed. There was a lot of speculation around the hosting of Asia Cup but in the end the 2023 edition took place in the Hybrid model in Pakistan and Sri-Lanka.
We also saw a lot of stoppages during the matches due to extreme weather conditions at Sri-Lanka. However, in the end we witnessed a great tournament and all the attention now turns towards the ICC Cricket World Cup.
But before the mega event starts, let’s find out the Batters with most sixes in Asia Cup 2023.
- Rohit Sharma: The Indian Captain holds the record of hitting 2nd most sixes in International cricket and he is only behind the Universe boss in the list of most International sixes. However, he finds himself at the summit of Most sixes in Asia Cup 2023. The Hitman scored 11 sixes in 5 innings and scored a total of 194 runs.
- Shubman Gill: Rohit Sharma’s opening partner, 24-year-old Shubman Gill had a memorable first Asia Cup campaign with India. Regarded as the next big thing of Indian cricket, the right-handed batter finished as the highest scorer of the tournament with 302 runs including a Century against Bangladesh. He smashed 5 sixes less than his skipper – 6 in 6 innings.
- Iftikhar Ahmed: Pakistan’s 33-year-old Batter Iftikhar Ahmed would have hoped for a better outing in Asia Cup 2023. Before eventually bowing out of the Super 4 stage, Pakistan were considered firm favorites. Regardless, Iftikhar Ahmed hit 6 sixes in 3 innings, scoring 179 runs.
- Kusal Mendis: Sri-Lanka’s best Batter in Asia Cup 2023, Kusal Mendis would be gutted after his team’s performance in the Final against India. Getting all out for 50 in a 50-over match will definitely haunt them for a long time but individually, Mendis enjoyed a decent Asia Cup campaign. He scored a total of 270 runs and smashed 5 sixes.
- Mohammad Nabi: Afghanistan bowed out of Asia Cup 2023 from the group stages after finishing 3rd in Group B. They lost both of their group matches against Bangladesh and Sri-Lanka. They will have a lot to do in the World Cup next month and Mohammad Nabi will be a key player for Afghanistan. Nabi smacked 5 sixes in 2 matches and scored 68 runs.
