Three Australian Stars To Feature in Major League Cricket

The newest Australian players to be announced for the inaugural United States T20 event are wicketkeeper Matthew Wade, Moises Henriques, and Adam Zampa. Henriques will assume the position of team captain for the Washington Freedom. The 36-year-old has guided the Big Bash League team Sixers to consecutive championships in 2019–20 and 2020–21. Josh Philippe, who bats first, and Ben Dwarshuis, a fast bowler, are also rumoured to be joining the Washington club for the July tournament, so he could still have two more BBL teammates.

The Los Angeles Knight Riders, a team owned by the Kolkata Knight Riders, will also welcome Australia’s top white-ball spinner Adam Zampa. Additionally, Matthew Wade has signed with an MLC club.

Zampa and Wade, who have spent the last two months with the Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans of the Indian Premier League, respectively.

While the dynamic wicketkeeper-batter has had trouble cracking the starting XI of the reigning champions, Zampa has taken eight wickets in six games for the Royals. For virtually the entire season, Wriddhiman Saha, a former India wicketkeeper, has kept him out of the team.

Out of the six MLC franchises, Washington has so far confirmed the most foreign signings, with Henriques joining Anrich Nortje and Marco Jansen of South Africa, Glenn Phillips and Adam Milne of New Zealand, and spinner Wanindu Hasaranga of Sri Lanka.
