The Perfect Match– PV Sindhu & Venkata Datta’s Love Story
It’s often said that people fall in love in mysterious ways. For India’s badminton superstar and Olympic medallist PV Sindhu too, this holds true. Sindhu tied the knot with her beau Venkata Datta on December 22, 2024, in a dreamy destination wedding in Udaipur after being together for two years and commenced a new chapter in their book of life. Their love story is what is known as the quintessential example of ‘Friends-turned-Life Partners.’
Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medallist with a silver medal at the 2016 Rio Games and a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, is undoubtedly celebrated as India’s most successful shuttler. Now, her celebratory personal milestone has also captured the hearts of people across the nation.
Their relationship evolution through the recent years is nothing less than a filmy fairytale. Talking to Vogue India in an exclusive interview after the wedding, Sindhu self-confessed and revealed that she and her husband Datta have known each other for several years but only as friends.
It was only in 2022, when the couple’s supposed love story kicked off when they reconnected on a flight traveling together. The relationship bloomed purely through destiny as the couple met and fell in love serendipitously,
Sindhu’s father shared with the media that both families have known each other for many years since 2013, but the wedding arrangements came together in just a month.
PV Sindhu said it was almost like “love at first sight”, and it felt like the stars had aligned as that journey on the flight brought them closer to each other. Their official marriage announcement came through with pictures of their intimate engagement going viral on social media, arousing curiosity amongst fans on the lesser-known partner of the badminton shuttler.
The badminton player revealed that the function was a close-knit affair, not hyped or over the top, as they celebrated their emotional joy with the people who truly mattered to them.
Known for her clarity of thoughts and effervescent style, Sindhu’s fashion sense in all the events of their matrimonial union was elegance and class personified. Having the most reputed Indian designers showcase their craftsmanship through the couple’s coordinated outfits, PV surely impressed the public with her taste in couture and caught the attention from all quarters.
Though PV Sindhu is certainly the more popular and known figure in this relationship, her husband is not too far behind. Venkata Datta, Sindhu’s spouse is an entrepreneur and currently the Executive Director of Posidex, a data mining company.
He holds a BBA in Accounting and Finance from Flame University and a master’s degree in data science & Machine Learning from IIFT Bangalore. He currently serves as the Managing Director of Sour Apple Asset Management and has also played a key role in managing the JSW-owned Delhi Capitals team during his brief stint with IPL.
Seeing this much in love couple, it is synonymous with the quote from the sport of badminton; ‘Their love is a rally that never ends, with every shot bringing them closer together.’. PV Sindhu is the feather in his shuttle while Datta symbolizing the strings in her racket.
