Nepal’s superstar cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane is all set to be reinstated in his Nepali national team for the remaining T20 world Cup 2024 matches being held in the West Indies. This recent development comes at the backdrop where he had faced visa rejection twice at the US over a legal case issue in Nepal.
Sandeep Lamichhane, a 23-year-old leg spinner can be bounded as Nepal’s most popular and notable cricketer. Since he has been endowed with discretional skills which can only be gotten from raw talent, he has received international recognition which makes him a role model to young athletes in Nepal.

However, in October 2022, his career was plunged into controversy and he faced a sexual assault allegation. He was arrested as well as suspended from Nepalese cricket for some time by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN).
Sandeep Lamichhane also sought to avoid liability charges and asserted his innocence during the trial process. In May 2024, the Patan High Court acquitted him of the eight year sentence as there was no concrete evidence to warrant such punishment for him With this acquittal, the CAN returned him back to the national team.
Lamichhane was initially named in the T20 World Cup 2024 squad which is being hosted along with USA and West Indies but to be named to the squad he needed a US visa. His visa application was turned down twice even though the Nepali government tried to provide his cause. This inflicted a small hitch where Lamichhane had to modify his plans and aim for coming to the team for the subsequent matches in the West Indies.
It is with the above spins that Lamichhane returned to the national team – albeit with certain obstacles. His selection in the team has to pass the Event Technical Committee and hence the International Cricket Council (ICC).
