Pakistan prepares to host ICC Champions Trophy 2025, security concerns remain
One of the biggest prize in the cricketing world, the ICC Champions Trophy is all set to comeback in 2025 and Pakistan is targeting to become the host. Nevertheless, security on the participation of Indian cricket team overshadowed the entire craze created for the tournament.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has also recommended itself to the International Cricket Council (ICC) wishlist requesting it to allow them to host the Champions Trophy next year. This puts them in a position of hosting a major ICC event for the first time since the year 1996 Cricket world cup. Though they have hosted entire Asia Cup in 2008 as well as some match in 2023, The Champions Trophy has different status as being a high level international tournament.

Knowing the potential risks involved in the Indian team visiting Pakistan the PCB has provided a platform with following solution. They even suggested making Lahore, the venue of Indian “home” games in the tournament. This would also reduce travel related matters for the Indian team and give the PCB good reason to enforce maximum security for en even as a team. This proposal has been initiated amidst the same sentiment that led India to withdraw from the Asia Cup last year in Pakistan.
The most unknown factor regarding the Champions Trophy is whether will India be participating or not? Depending on the outcome of this series, the BCCI has not said anything about their team and its willingness to tour Pakistan. Security issues are again a factor of importance and India’s decision will greatly affect viewership and thus success of the whole event.
The PCB is already making preparations for the Champions Trophy. They have revealed details of how and where they plan to upgrade the stadiums in Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi to guarantee a world class practice for the tournament. Besides, they plan on having a tri-nations series involving South Africa and New Zealand before the Champions Trophy, the result showing their willingness to stage the event successfully.
The PCB chairman has however insinuated massive overhaul within the team. But their sheer insistence to host the Champions Trophy and their active participation in attempting to avert threats that could jeopardize their security show their desire to get back to those glory days.
Possibly, the much-awaited ICC Champions Trophy in 2025 in Pakistan can break the record. But how effective remains to be seen depends heavily on india’s involvement and also the PCB assuring that all teams are safe. The coming months are likely to be decisive as both the ICC and the nations concerned are in this situation.
