Let’s Understand more about this game in detail:
Pickleball is a widely enjoyed racquet or paddle sport that can be played in either singles or doubles format. This sport, which originated in America, is now played in over 70 countries around the world. It combines elements from table tennis, tennis, and badminton.
The number of players who are adopting this sport is increasing widely on worldwide basis and considering their growing popularity it is expected that it can be added in the Upcoming Los Angeles Olympics scheduled in 2028.
History of Pickleball:
According to a report published in the 1965 edition of The Guardian, three elderly individuals stumbled upon this game while sitting in a Badminton court, using a hard plastic ball; the person who invented the game named it “Pickleball” after their pet dog, named Pickle.
A temporary court for Pickleball was set up again in 1967, primarily to allow all family members to play together in one location.
Reports from the US Sports and Fitness Industry Association indicate that from 2020 to 2021, over 22 percent of individuals took up this sport.
By 2022, that number had risen to 39.3 percent.
Basic Rules of the game:
1. It is played on diagonal courts, where the person who is servicing the ball commonly known as “Server” does it from back line in the diagonal direction.
2. The Opposite person need to return back the ball in the diagonal way.
3. The game remains active till the time person/team doesn’t lose command over the ball.
4. Mostly it is 15 minute game but it may vary with place to place.
5. Rally and Fault are the type of shots which are highly used in this popular sport.
6. The equipements include- Paddle, Pickelball hole with two different size- 26 Hole and 40 Hole and the net which is used mostly is 36 inches(0.91 m).
You may be shocked to hear that, there is a Guiness World Record in the sport of Pickleball created by one and only Ettore Rossetti in the year 2022 where he hit 10,532 consecutive shots in a row.
