The Manchester Originals pulled off a thrilling 10-run victory over the Trent Rockets in a high-scoring match at Trent Bridge on Thursday. The Originals, who were put into bat, scored 181-6 thanks to a brilliant 86 from Phil Salt, who was named Man of the Match. Salt hit 12 fours and 5 sixes in his 32-ball inning.
Tongue (3-32) and Walter (2-24) shared five wickets between them to restrict Rockets to 171 for 5 after they followed an unsuccessful run-chase. They fell short 10 runs to mark victory against the Originals.

Kohler-Cadmore was the only Rockets batsman to make a significant contribution, scoring 64 off 42 balls before he was dismissed by Josh Tongue later in the game. Joe Root (35) and Colin Munro (36) also got starts but they were denied the massive run chase for their team by the brilliant bowling from Manchester Originas’ bowlers.
For Originals, Philip Salt (86) and Jos Buttler (11) provided the early impetus before Laurie Evans (14) and Paul Walter (27) chipped in with useful contributions. Paul Walter was the pick of the bowlers for Originals, taking 2 for 24.
The win helps the Originals move to the third spot of the table, while the Rockets remain in fifth place.
Tongue’s magic spell
Tongue was the star of the show with the ball, taking three wickets in his first two overs. He bowled Hales with a beautiful inswinger that got him caught in the hands of Jos Buttler and then dismissed Kohler-Cadmore and Colin Munro in successive overs.
Walter was also impressive, taking two wickets in his first three overs. He dismissed dangerous Root with a slower ball that the batsman failed to pick, and then trapped Daniel Sams.
Originals’ clinical batting
The originals’ batting was clinical while putting on massive 181 runs. Opening batter Buttler and Salt put on 42 for the first wicket. Salt’s dashing inning of 86 runs was the highlight of the show, which laid the foundation for the massive target for the Originals.
Daniel Sams was the only bowler to trouble the Originals’ batsmen, but he was unable to take his team to victory mark. He was the most economical bowler of the match, conceding just 28 runs in his 20-ball spell.
The result is a blow to the Rockets’ title hopes.
Rockets are now two points behind Originals at the top of the table, and they have a game in hand. However, they will need to improve their batting if they want to challenge for the title.
