However, Tymal Mills broke the partnership on the 23rd delivery of the inning trapping, Smeed for 23. Ben Duckett and Liam Livingston tried to rebuild the innings, but Ahmed got rid of Duckett on the 39th delivery of the inning at 27. Dan Mousley and Liam Livingstone then added quick runs but Mills dismissed Livingstone eventually in the game.
Birmingham Phoenix were unable to recover from the loss of Livingstone and they were restricted to a below-par total of 119 for 8. In reply, Southern Brave cruised to victory with four wickets and 6 balls to spare. Finn Allen scored 22 off 14 balls, while George Garton and Devon Conway contributed 28 and 24 runs respectively.
The win helped Southern Brave move up to second place in the table, while Birmingham Phoenix remain bottom of the table.
Here are the key takeaways from the match:
Rehan Ahmed’s performance was a major factor in Southern Brave’s victory. The 18-year-old leg-spinner bowled with great control and accuracy, and he was able to extract turn and bounce from the pitch.
Colin Ackermann and Chris Jordan also bowled well, and they shared one wicket each. The duo’s experience and ability to bowl different variations proved to be too much for the Birmingham Phoenix batsmen.
Finn Allen provided the impetus in Southern Brave’s chase with a quickfire 22 off 14 balls. The New Zealander hit 3 fours and a six in his innings.
