Jonty Rhodes to become the head coach of Sweden Cricket Team after IPL

Former South African cricketer, Jonty Rhodes is all set to become the head coach of Sweden cricket team, the Sweden Cricket Federation announced on Thursday. Jonty Rhodes is currently serving as a fielding coach of Kings Eleven Punjab. He will move to Sweden with his family after the completion of the cash-rich league.

The South African cricketer too expressed his excitement ahead of the new challenges and said that it couldn’t have come at a better time.

I am really excited to relocate to Sweden with my family and work together with the Swedish Cricket community. This opportunity has come at a perfect time and I am grateful to be able to invest my energies in a completely new environment. I can’t wait to get started,” said Rhodes.

In the statement, the Swedish Cricket Federation mentioned that cricket is the second-fastest growing sport in the country. It has seen 300 per cent increase in participation over the last two years.

“Jonty will play a pivotal role in lifting our players as well as assisting in securing quality coaching framework for the future sustainability of the game,” said Benn Harradine, SCF Sports Director.

“I am delighted to have him as part of our small and ambitious team,” he added.

Jonty Rhodes is considered as one of the best fielders to have ever played the game of cricket. He has represented South Africa in 52 Tests and 245 One-Day Internationals, scoring 2535 and 5935 runs respectively.
