IPL 2023 : Ricky Ponting says Delhi Capitals helped him break the ice with Sourav Ganguly in latest interview!

The Delhi Capitals have been experiencing a difficult season in the 2023 Indian Premier League as they have lost 7 of their initial eleven matches. Being at the bottom of the standings, the team might not be technically eliminated from contention for a playoff spot, but it has a very difficult road ahead of it.

Rishabh Pant, the first-team captain for the Capitals, is missing the remainder of the season while he recovers from wounds received in a vehicle accident last year. With David Warner as the captain, DC has struggled with finding stability, especially in their batting line-up.

As the team’s coach in chief, Ricky Ponting, and the Capitals’ director of cricket, Sourav Ganguly, respectively, 2 of the greatest personalities in sports are seated in the sidelines. The pair had previously collaborated during the competition’s first 2019 season, when the DC placed third in the points standings and the franchise officially began.

Despite the team’s unproductive campaign this year, Ponting has spoken out about collaborating with Ganguly, someone he has frequently faced off against in international cricket.

“When you talk about rivalry, he was a bigger rival to Steve Waugh when he was the captain. They had a bit more edge than Sourav and I. We did play a lot against each other, we captained in the World Cup final against each other. But he was involved with DC back in 2019 when things really started to change. He went to the biggest seat in the last couple of years, and now he’s back with us,” Ponting told Delhi Capitals podcast.

Delhi Capitals have an even more difficult task in hand if they are to reach the play-offs. Their remaining three matches are against Punjab Kings twice in a row while their final fixture of the season is against 4-time champions Chennai Super Kings.
Only a win will not be enough for Delhi as they will have to register a big margin victory for a greater run rate. Although they are realistically out of the contentions but it remains to be seen if they can end the season on a high-note.
