India’s 1983 world-cup winning bowler, Madan Lal has opined that KKR skipper, Dinesh Karthik should open for KKR in the coming games instead of Sunil Narine. While talking on Sports Tak, the veteran stated that Sunil Narine hasn’t delivered goods opening the batting for KKR this year and thus should make way for Dinesh Karthik at the top.
“Sunil Narine is not able to play the big hits now. It would be better if Dinesh Karthik himself opens instead of Narine, so that his batting order does not go that far back.“
Madan Lal wants a proper batsman to open with Shubman Gill in the first six overs. KKR opening the batting with two proper batsmen could get them to great starts, reckons the 69-year-old.
“I will not open with Sunil Narine. I will have a proper batsman with Shubman Gill because in the first 6 overs even if a proper batsman comes, they will score 50-60 runs.“
The Indian cricketer also lauded Shubhman Gill for his outstanding knocks in the last two games for KKR. The former reckons that a great opening partner could help Gill score big knocks in the coming games.
“Kolkata Knight Riders have two-three very exciting youngsters in their team – Shubman Gill, Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi. Shubman Gill has not been able to make the big runs because he does not have a good opener along with him.”
“It shows that he is definitely a long-term prospect. I feel we will hear a lot about him in the coming days and the Indian team is going to get a very good player.”
