Indian Esports News: Lionsgate Play announces first India’s sitcom based on Esports

Esports have already broken all the barriers in India in terms of viewership and popularity and it will keep on growing at a higher pace in years to come. Recently we come across a news where ace runner Usain Bolt became a co-onwer of Ireland based Esports team “Wylde Esports”.

Taking about latest development in the field of Esports in India, where streaming service platform “Lionsgate Play” announced the first Indian sitcom based on Esports.

The concept of the show is created by “Karmanya Ahuja” in the form of series which will depict the journey of Professional esports players and will cover their high and lows that they go through as an ardent video game player.

The show is called as “Gamers Log” which will be directed by Director “Abhinay Deo” who directed films like “Delhi Belly” and it will be produced under the banner of “RDP Pulp Fiction Entertainment“.

Rohit Jain who is currently serving as the Managing Director South Asia and Networks of Lionsgate is excited to release this unique content from its stable.

“Esports is a booming industry in India; 350+ million online gamers were recorded last year, and it’s an upward growth from here. ‘Gamer Log’ will essentially showcase the lives of these very Gamers. We look forward to working with Abhinay and Neeta on a show that will be funny, youthful and mainstream,” Jain said in a statement.

Mrinalini Khanna, VP, Originals, Lionsgate Play said, “Gamer Log embodies the exact principles of content coming out of Lionsgate stable – innovation blended with entertainment. The series is placed in an enthralling universe but has the classical challenges of a coming of age.”

Director Abhinay Deo said that he is excited to collaborate with Lionsgate to bring this unique concept on OTT platform.

“With ‘Gamer Log’, we plan to tap into an unexplored world, bringing audiences a story about friendship, camaraderie, hopes, dreams and ambition,” the filmmaker added.

India will be thriving in years to come when it comes to active players, player pool and tournaments in the field of Esports.
