Indian Minister openly speak on Parliament about government role in promoting Esports in the country to provide jobs to ardent players

Amid all the growth Esports in India have made in last few years there is still no official federation recognized by Government of India to take care of operations of Esports in the country. Recently, Indian Minister “Dr. V. P. Sahasrabuddhe” spoke in the parliament about government to become more active and show keen interest regarding video gaming in India so that Esports ecosystem can grow financially as well as in terms of job creation to ardent video game players.

Over the years Player pool, competitions and events has significantly increased in India due to immense market size and viewership.

Recent annual budget released by Government of India highlighted the importance of AVGC (Audio Visual, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics sector).

In the upcoming Asian Games 2022, Esports has been introduced as the medal event in eight different video gaming disciple. Out of these eight events two games have been banned in India which will restrict the winning chances of Indian players across different categories.

Asian Games 2022 has officially included Esports as medal event and those eight events include-PUBG Mobile(Asian Games Version), Dota2, Leagues of Legends, Hearthstone, FIFA Online 4, Street Fighter V, Arena of Valor(Asaian Games Version)and the Dream of three Kingdoms 2.

Today at the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of Indian Parliament Dr. V. P. Sahasrabuddhe addressed the representation of Indian players in the upcoming marquee event.

“The subject of special mention of the house, which is about developing a prudent ecosystem of Esports, including legally permissible e-gaming. I would like to draw the attention of the house to the fact that among the eight games that are medal sports in the Asian Games 2022 two are banned in India by the Ministry of Electronics Information Technology, due to Data pilferage concerns.”

“What is required is to have a more holistic outlook toward Esports and gaming, and in that regard, there have to be some efforts on the part of the Government to ensure that India’s flag is represented and players are selected for these tournaments in a fair and transparent manner. I request that wider concentrations need to be held, to develop a prudent esports ecosystem in India to further economic growth as well as job creation.”

Esports industry in India has opened avenue for Job opportunities for national players and contributed heavily in the country’s GDP. The upcoming Asian Games is all set to held in Hangzhou China from September 10th to 25th 2022.
