The game was poised to be an exciting clash between two formidable teams, but Mother Nature had other plans. Despite the anticipation and the enthusiasm of fans from both nations, persistent rain played the spoilsport, preventing the players from taking the field and showcasing their cricketing skills.

Before the rain interruption, Afghanistan’s inning was characterized by some early wickets, thanks to the brilliant bowling performance of the Indian team. Arshdeep Singh and Ravi Bishnoi were the standout performers, taking crucial wickets and restricting Afghanistan to just 112/5 in 18.2 overs.

Shahidullah was the shining star for Afghanistan, finishing unbeaten with 49 runs off 43 balls, displaying resilience and determination in a challenging situation. Afsar Zazai contributed with a valuable 15 runs, while Gulbadin Naib, the captain of the Afghanistan team, remained unbeaten with 27 runs off 24 balls.

On the other hand, India’s bowling attack showed their mettle, with Arshdeep Singh, Shivam Dube, and Shahbaz Ahmed each picking up a wicket. Ravi Bishnoi’s impressive bowling spell of 4 overs for just 12 runs was instrumental in India’s tight grip on the game.

With the game called off, the fate of the gold medal hung in the balance. However, India was declared the winner due to their higher seeding in the competition. This result marks India’s dominance in the cricket competitions at the 2023 Asian Games, securing both the men’s and women’s titles.

While the cancellation of the final may have left cricket enthusiasts disappointed, it cannot overshadow the remarkable performances exhibited by the teams throughout the tournament. Afghanistan’s journey to the final was commendable, and they showcased their cricketing prowess against tough opponents.

It was a day of celebration for India as they added another gold medal to their tally at the Asian Games, cementing their status as a cricketing powerhouse in the region. The Indian team, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, displayed exceptional skill and teamwork, and this victory will undoubtedly serve as a source of pride for the nation.
