Australian national cricket team Captain and senior Pacer Pat Cummins endured the biggest tragedy one could face after his mother (Maria Cummins) passed away at Sydney after a prolonged battle with illness. Cummins had flown back to Australia right after the loss in 2nd Test at Delhi to be with his mother and Cricket Australia confirmed the news earlier today.
The Australia cricketing board extended their condolences and also stated that the Australian team which is currently squaring off against India at Ahmedabad for the 4th Test of the Border-Gavaskar trophy will wear a black armband as a sign of respect for Pat Cummins’ mother.

CA took to twitter and expressed their grief and sadness over this tragic incident. Maria Cummins was actually diagnosed with Breast cancer since 2005 and she had been dealing with illness from then onwards. It was only in the last few weeks that her health started to detoriorate and Pat Cummins had to leave his team in India to be with his mother.

It will prove to be a huge shock for Pat Cummins who was actually having one of the best times in his career before back-to-back Border-Gavaskar test losses and now his mother’s passing. For almost 4 years, Pat Cummins was at the summit of the ICC Test bowlers rankings until James Anderson overtook him last month.
Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also shared a tweet on Friday morning stating – “On behalf of Indian Cricket, we express our sadness at the passing away of Pat Cummins mother. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family in this difficult period.”
