Guwahati Might Host 3 IPL Games Next Year

The cricket fans of North-East India might get to watch IPL games live from the stadium very soon as the Barsapara Stadium situated in Guwahati is likely to host some of the home matches of the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2020.

The Royals generally play their home games at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, but their owners had sought permission to shift three out of their seven home games to Guwahati for the next season of the IPL.

If the reports are to be believed, they got the approval from the Committee of Administrators (CoA) which was handing the affairs of the BCCI at the time the permission was sought.

However, with the BCCI now having new administrators in the office, the decision of the CoA might be reviewed.

Teams playing their home games at different stadiums is not something new in the IPL.

Kings XI Punjab have played their home games in Indore, while Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) have played their home games in Raipur. Even the Royals have had their home games shifted to Ahmedabad in the past.

The idea behind shifting the home games of the IPL teams to smaller towns is to give the people of smaller towns an opportunity to watch the biggest cricketing superstars live.

The Assam Cricket Stadium (ACA) has, meanwhile, denied of getting any official information regarding the shifting of the matches from the Royals’ hierarchy or from the BCCI.

The ACA president Devajit Saikia, however, insisted if the Royals indeed come and play in Guwahati, it’s going to be wonderful.

The next IPL, which will be the 13th edition of the tournament, will start from the 23rd of March, 2020 and will continue till the 12th of May.

Mumbai Indians, the reigning champions, will lock horns with the other finalist of the last season, the Chennai Super Kings in the opening match of the tournament.
