Delhi Capitals welcome BCCI’s decision of staging IPL in UAE

Indian Premier League franchise, Delhi Capitals has welcomed the BCCI’s decision of going ahead with the tournament in the UAE this year. Capitals accepted the IPL Governing Council’s way of organising the 13th edition of the league under the bio-secure environment. 

The cash-rich IPL was initially scheduled to begin from March 28 this year, unfortunately, it was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic in the country. However, the tournament will now begin from September 19 and the finals will be played on November 10.

 Delhi Capitals co-owner and chairman Parth Jindal said “There is no doubt that the news of the IPL taking place has come as a breath of fresh air for all of us. The fact that the IPL is going to be conducted amidst such challenging times is another testament to the BCCI and to IPL’s global standing as one of the top leagues amongst all sports in the world.”

“The number of people who have expressed delight is remarkable and we all at DC are looking forward to giving it our all for our fans to bring the trophy to Delhi this season. IPL truly has the power to lift the morale of our country as we fight the COVID pandemic and I for one am delighted that IPL 2020 is being conducted,” he added.

The matches are slated to take place across three venues in UAE i.e., Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. And the tournament will span for 53 days and it will be for the first time that the IPL finals would take place on the weekends. 

Moreover, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly also announced staging Women’s T20 Challenge which will take place in the UAE between November 1-10.
