Daryl Morey labels “Giannis and Bucks” as 2019-20 version of Golden State Warriors

Golden State Warriors certainly set the bar quite high in the last few seasons. They have been the team to beat in the NBA, especially in the playoffs when the real action starts and the stars bring their A-Game to the fore and Warriors’ roster was stocked with the superstars, who never disappointed in big games. Quite fittingly, Warriors’ dominance from 2015 to 2019 has been termed as a “Dynasty” by the NBA pundits and fans alike.

So if a team performs at that level, and play with that sort of consistency throughout the course of the regular season, it’s quite normal that that team draws comparison with the Warriors. And no team has been as dominant as Milwaukee Bucks this season.

Whenever Bucks are being discussed, Giannis Antetokounmpo’s name is tossed. He is their main man. Superstar. He is the reigning NBA MVP after all and is racking up numbers good enough to win the back-to-back personal accolade. But he has sat out the games this season, and so has the likes of Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez, but the Bucks kept on marching, continued to win games, and that’s what makes them so special.

They are a well-knit unit, well-oiled to negotiate the demand of the post-season when even the stars may have some brain-fade moments, those are the moments when the second unit is needed. Bucks have a very good bench.

And who knows it better than someone associated with the Houston Rockets, who couldn’t find an answer to get past the Warriors despite their attempts to create their own “Super Team” to tackle Steve Kerr’s men. Of course, the Rockets, who could have won a couple of titles, and James Harden could have had multiple rings shining on his fingers had it not for the Dubs and their utterly talented roster.

Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey appeared on Fox Sports, where he was asked about his team’s chances in the playoffs, but he digressed to Wisconsin instead and said he was surprised at why the Bucks are not being discussed with the same respect as the Warriors used to be, or for that matter, the Los Angeles Lakers are being this season.

“To me, this year, the Milwaukee is a remarkable story,” he said.

“Milwaukee should be talked about like the Golden State Warriors. They (Bucks) are an unbelievable team. I don’t understand why, obviously they are Milwaukee maybe, but they are the team to beat this season. They are extremely hard to beat.”

Bucks are sitting at the summit of the Eastern Conference with a 52-9 record, and are the first team to qualify for the playoffs this season.
