CPL 2023: Despite Team’s Loose Performance Oshane Thomas Bowls Brilliantly

CPL 2023: Oshane Thomas bowled a brilliant spell of 3-38, but his efforts were in vain as the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots lost to the Guyana Amazon Warriors by 65 runs in the 8th match of the Caribbean Premier League at Warner Park in Basseterre, St Kitts on Friday.

The St Kitts and Nevis Patriots won the toss and elected to bowl first. They got off to a good start, with Saim Ayub (31) and Shai Hope (54) putting on major runs for the Warriors. However, Thomas struck twice in the space of three balls to dismiss King and Hemraj, and the Warriors were reduced to 48-2 in the fifth over.

Shai Hope (54) and Gudakesh Motie (31) then put on a 59-run partnership to steady the innings. With the reliable contribution from their top-order batters, the Warriors posted a mammoth total of 197 in 20 overs.

Thomas was the pick-up of the bowler for the St Kitts by taking the scalp of 3 wickets. However, he could not restrict Warrior’s batter to score runs at will. He struck in the latter and dismissed Azam Khan, Shimron Hetmeyer and Keemo Paul.

In reply, the Patriots got off to a poor start, losing Andre Fletcher (1). Evin Lewis (48) and Ambati Rayudu (32) tried to rebuild their inning but Gudakesh Motie’s introduction turned the game in favour of the Warriors.
The Patriots never recovered from the early blows, and they were bowled out for 132 in 16.5 overs. Motie was the pick of the bowlers for the Amazon Warriors, taking 4-29.

Thomas was the best bowler for the Patriots, but his efforts were not enough to prevent their defeat. With this win, the Amazon Warriors have finally got their first win of the CPL 2023. They are now placed fifth in the points table, while the Patriots are placed third.

The next match of the CPL 2023 will be played between the Jamaica Tallawahs and the Trinbago Knight Riders on Saturday, August 26 at Warner Park in Basseterre, St Kitts.
