The Jamaica Tallawahs continued their unbeaten start to the 2023 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) with an eight-wicket win over the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on Wednesday. The Tallawahs won the toss and elected to field first, and they were rewarded for their decision as Salman Irshad took four wickets to restrict the Patriots to 156-9.
Irshad was the pick of the Tallawahs bowlers, taking four wickets for 23 runs in his four overs. He was ably supported by Mohammed Amir, who took three wickets, and Imad Wasim, who took one wicket. The Patriots got off to a good start, with Andre Fletcher and Evin Lewis scoring 20 runs in the first two overs.
However, Irshad struck in the fourth over, dismissing Fletcher and Ambati Rayudu to leave the Patriots reeling at 37-4. Joshua Da Silva and Dominic Drakes tried to rebuild the innings, but they were unable to score at a quick enough rate.
The Patriots eventually finished their innings with 156-9, with Da Silva top-scoring with 36 runs. In reply, the Tallawahs got off to a flying start, with Brandon King and Kirk McKenzie putting on 52 runs for the first wicket. King was in superb form, hitting 7 fours and 3 sixes in his 33-ball knock.

King was eventually dismissed by Dominic Drakes for 67, but by that time the Tallawahs were well on their way to victory. Shamarh Brooks and Amir Jangoo finished the innings off with ease, as the Tallawahs reached their target with 16.3 overs to spare.
The win keeps the Tallawahs top of the CPL 2023 standings, while the Patriots remain winless after two matches. King’s innings was the highlight of the match, and it showed why he is one of the most exciting young batsmen in the world.
He was in complete control of his innings, and he punished anything that was short or wide. His knock was a timely reminder of his talent, and it will be interesting to see how he performs in the rest of the tournament.
The Tallawahs will next face the Barbados Royals on Saturday, while the Patriots will take on the Tribago Knight Riders on Sunday.
