The much-anticipated Asian Games 2023 are set to take place in Hangzhou, People’s Republic of China, from September 23 to October 8, 2023. This spectacular continental extravaganza, postponed from 2022 due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, promises to be a thrilling event featuring 40 sports, where Asia’s finest athletes will battle for supremacy.

India’s journey at the Asian Games has been nothing short of remarkable, with a rich history of accomplishments. Over the past few decades, the country’s participation has risen significantly, reflecting its growing prowess in the sporting arena. This year, India is set to make its mark once again by sending a formidable contingent of 634 athletes to compete across 38 diverse sports. The largest representation will be in the field of athletics, boasting a team of 65 talented individuals.

Compared with the previous edition held in Jakarta in 2018, where India had participated with 570 athletes in 36 sports, this demonstrates the nation’s increasing dedication to sports and its determination to showcase its capabilities on the international stage.

Officially titled the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022, this grand event was initially scheduled for the previous year. However, due to the unprecedented challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, it was wisely rescheduled to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.

Among the various sports that India will compete in, fencing stands out as an area of considerable focus. The fencing squad is comprised of highly skilled athletes, each ready to demonstrate their prowess and dedication. In the women’s epee category, the team includes Taniksha Khatri, Ena Arora, Yashikeerat Kaur Hayer, and Jyothika Dutta. These talented women are poised to exhibit their precision and finesse on the fencing strip. Bhavani Devi, a notable athlete, will be participating in the women’s individual saber event, aiming to showcase her mastery of the sport.

In the men’s category, the foil event will witness the participation of Dev, Arjun, Bibish Kathiresan, and Akash Kumar. These athletes have honed their skills and techniques, and they are prepared to compete at the highest level, seeking to secure victories and bring honor to their nation.
