Ajit Agarkar appointed head of Men’s Selection Committee
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed Ajit Agarkar as the head of the Men’s Selection Committee. Agarkar, a former India seamer, has previously served as a selector for the Mumbai team and as an assistant coach for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL. He is celebrated for his career, which includes 288 wickets in 191 ODIs, making him the third-highest wicket-taker for India in the format. Agarkar played in 26 Tests, four T20Is, 110 first-class, 270 List A, and 62 T20 matches.
Agarkar’s 21-ball half-century against Zimbabwe in an ODI in 2000 is the fastest by an Indian in the format. Additionally, he is the quickest Indian to reach 50 ODI scalps, reaching there in 23 games, and third overall. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) consisting of Sulakshana Naik, Ashok Malhotra, and Jatin Paranjape interviewed prospective candidates. Chetan Sharma resigned from his position as chief selector following a sting operation, leaving the position vacant.
Agarkar recommended for chairperson role based on seniority. He is the second selector from West Zone, with Salil Ankola being the other. The BCCI’s decision to appoint him as the head of the Men’s Selection Committee is a testament to his experience and expertise in the sport. Cricket fans around the world will be eagerly waiting to see the impact of Agarkar’s appointment on the Indian cricket team’s future performances.
Team India Men’s Selection Committee aside from Ajit Agarkar:
The newly appointed Men’s Selection Committee for Team India includes Ajit Agarkar (Chairperson), Shiv Sundar Das, Subroto Banerjee, Salil Ankola, and Sridharan Sharath. With Team India going through a transition phase, Agarkar’s performance as the head of the committee will play an essential role in their success. The Men in Blue will start their tour of the West Indies on July 12, with a two-Test series in Dominica.
The two sides will also face off in three ODIs and five T20Is. The committee’s decisions, such as dropping Pujara and reinstating Rahane as Sharma’s deputy in Tests, have caused concern. The new selection committee will start their tenure by selecting the team for Asia Cup 2023.
