19th Asian Games 2023: Results of all India’s matches on Day 1

India secured medals across various sports on the first day of competition. In the women’s 10m air rifle event, Ramita, Mehuli Ghosh, and Ashi Chouksey claimed a silver medal. Shortly after, Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind, representing the army, won silver in the men’s lightweight double sculls in rowing.

More rowing success followed with the men’s eight team earning another silver, while Babu Lal Yadav and Lekh Ram secured bronze in the men’s pair event.

The women’s 10m air rifle final saw Ramita clinch a bronze medal, bringing India’s total medal count to five. Additionally, the Indian women’s cricket team confirmed a silver medal by defeating Bangladesh by 8 wickets in the semi-final.

However, India’s women’s table tennis team faced a setback, losing 2-3 to Thailand in the round of 16 fixture, with Manika Batra losing the decisive match

In women’s football, the Women In Blue suffered a 1-0 defeat to Thailand, marking the end of their campaign in Hangzhou. In boxing, champion Nikhat Zareen overcame a tough challenge from Vietnam’s Nguyen Thị Tam to advance to the pre-quarterfinals.

On the men’s football front, India played to a 1-1 draw with Myanmar, securing their spot in the round of 16 phase.

Shooting: 

India’s Ramita, Mehuli Ghosh, and Chouksey secured a silver medal in Women’s 10m Air Rifle (Team) shooting

In the realm of rowing, India’s Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind clinched a silver medal in Men’s Lightweight Double Sculls, while the Men’s Eight team also earned a silver medal. On the shooting front, Ramita bagged a bronze medal in Women’s 10m Air Rifle, and in rowing, Babu Lal Yadav and Lekh Ram secured a bronze in Men’s Pair.

Cricket:

In cricket, India dominated, beating Bangladesh by 8 wickets, advancing to the women’s final.

Rowing:

In other sports, India’s Kiran and Anshika Bharti finished 9th in Women’s Lightweight Double Sculls in rowing, while Satnam Singh and Parminder Singh claimed the 6th position in Men’s Doubles Sculls. The Women’s Four team consisting of Aswathi Padinjarayil Babu, Mrunmayee Nilesh Salgaonkar, Priya Devi Thangjam, and Rukmani finished 5th in their final.

Men’s Hockey 

Meanwhile, in men’s hockey, India outperformed Uzbekistan with a remarkable 16-0 victory in a Pool A match

Table Tennis

Table Tennis saw India narrowly lose 2-3 against Thailand in the women’s team round of 16, while they triumphed 3-2 against Kazakhstan in the men’s team round of 16.

Boxing:

In boxing, Preeti emerged victorious against Jordan’s Silina in the women’s 54kg category round of 16, and Nikhat Zareen secured her spot in the last 16

Volleyball

In volleyball, India faced a tough challenge, losing 0-3 to Japan in the men’s top-six classification fixture.

Men’s and Women’s Football:

Women’s football saw India’s unfortunate loss of 1-0 to Thailand in a must-win tie, while in rugby sevens, India suffered a 45-0 defeat to Japan. Lastly, in men’s football, India played to a 1-1 draw with Myanmar, leading Sunil Chhetri and his team into the round of 16
