The Indian cricket team, captained by Rohit Sharma, put on a commanding performance in the opening Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. India took an early lead in the four-match series thanks to its innings and 132-run victory in Nagpur, which also highlighted how strong the home team is. Despite playing without some of their major players, India and Australia nevertheless defeated Australia in Nagpur thanks to Rohit and company.

India recovered from a humiliating loss in the first Test to finally win the series 2-1 in the 2020–21 Border–Gavaskar Trophy.

A reporter recalled the performance and questioned Rohit about whether Australia could also recover in the ongoing series. Rohit stated that the hosts are not taking Australia lightly despite India winning the show in Nagpur.

Australia is consistently a top team. The beautiful thing about this team is that we try not to dwell on the past. It’s crucial to be in the here and now. Many of the players from the series are not in Australia. Some people are missing for us too,” Rohit remarked at a press conference following India’s victory in Nagpur.

Test cricket is a favourite sport in Australia. They take great delight in representing their nation while they are on display. We are well aware of their resiliency. We are generally aware of what they are capable of doing together. We are not discounting them in any way. We want to continue playing the style of cricket we did in this game, he continued.

On February 17, the second Test match between India and Australia will begin at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
