Tendulkar had played his farewell match in a game between Mumbai and Haryana in October 2013. Verma was present at the match, and Tendulkar acknowledged her presence by responding to her original tweet, stating that:

“It was nice meeting you too, Shafali. Hearing from you on how you had traveled all the way to Lahli to see my last Ranji Game & now seeing you play for India is amazing.

He further added, “Keep chasing your dreams because dreams do come true. Enjoy the game and always give your best.”

Verma, who was a part of the women’s Indian team for the T20 tri-series currently held in Australia, met Tendulkar recently and posted a picture with him on her Twitter handle. She expressed her excitement at having her idol tweet to her by saying,

“The reason I took up this game was because of Sachin sir. My whole family has not just idolized but literally worshiped him. Today is a special day for me that I got to meet my childhood hero. It was a dream come true for me.”

Tendulkar, who was in Australia for the Bushfire charity match held on Sunday, said that it felt good to pick up the bat once again when he walked out to the field after a period of five years to raise funds for the communities affected by Australia’s raging bushfire.

Sachin Tendulkar batted for an over in the innings break, where he faced the Woman Cricketer of the Year Ellyse Perry and her teammate Anna Sutherland. He had accepted the challenge of the Australian women’s team to face them during the charity match. Tendulkar had come to Australia to coach Ponting XI for the charity match.
