The Sri Lanka national selectors announce a 25 member squad for the upcoming limited over series against India starting from July 18th, 2021 in Colombo.  Dasun Shanaka will be leading the island side against Men in Blue.

India's tour of Sri Lanka in June officially Called-off due to COVID-19

He will be the sixth captain for the team in less than four years, with Sri Lanka led by Dinesh Chandimal, Angelo Mathews, Lasith Malinga, Dimuth Karunaratne, and Perera since 2018.

Dhananjaya de Silva is set to be Shanaka’s deputy and will be in the leadership role for the first time. Sri Lankan cricket is facing extreme criticism at the moment and primarily due to dismal performance against the series that they have played in the last 12 months including the recently concluded England series where three Lions completely dismantled the Sri Lankan team in all departments in limited over format.

They lost three-match T20 series by 0-3 followed by the ODI series by 0-2 with the last game against England due to rain. All is not well at Sri Lankan cricket as the players are fighting with the board for their central contract where there is a huge disparity according to local media reports.

Senior Players like Angelo Mathews who were supposed to be part of the squad against India have pulled out their name due to personal reasons and if reports are to be believed then all-rounder is not satisfied with the central contract that national board is providing to senior players.
