23-year-old Indian opener Shubman Gill is capable of leading Gujarat Titans in future in the Indian Premier League thinks former England Batsman Vikram Solanki. The 46-year-old former England batter had very positive words for the Punjab born batter and mentioned that Gill has a long way to go.

Shubman Gill has been an important player for the Indian team set up in the recent past and has put up extra ordinary performances to seal his spot and become a regular starter. The 23-year-old had a positive start in ODIs earlier this year scoring centuries and was also involved in match winning knocks.

He smacked back-to-back Centuries against Sri-Lanka and New Zealand earlier this year alongside a double century against the Kiwis. However, he could not replicate the same form in the recently concluded ODI series against Australia where he had scores of 20, 0 and 37.

Now he will have his eyes set in the upcoming edition of the IPL and then the major ICC events. This year India will play 2 major tournaments – ICC WTC Final and ICC Cricket World cup at home conditions. Gill will definitely be a key player and his work ethic will take him a very long way.

Meanwhile, Vikram Solanki said that Gill has already developed a brilliant knack of leadership in previous IPL and also appreciated the youngster’s attitude and temperament. “Shubman adapted the leadership role last year, by his conduct, by the way he goes about, with his professional attitude towards the game.”

“Do I think that Shubman will be a leader in the future? Yes absolutely, but no decision has been made about that as yet. He has leadership qualities and is very mature who has an abundant amount of talent.” Solanki concluded.

The brand new season of the IPL is just a week away from getting underway with reigning champions Gujarat Titans taking on 4-time IPL winners Chennai Super Kings.
