Pace spearhead Jaydev Unadkat has proved his worth and his hard work has finally paid off after he helped his team Saurashtra — to lift their maiden Ranji Trophy trophy of the 2019-20 season. After giving a stunning performance in the semi-final, Saurashtra skipper Unadkat bagged two wickets in the final against Bengal. With this, he became the leading wicket-taker in the 2019-20 season of the domestic tournament, with 67 scalps in his name. Besides, the pace bowler now placed in the second in the list of highest wicket-taker in Ranji Trophy.

After his beautiful performance, Indian skipper Virat Kohli’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma praised him a lot.  He has said that Unadkat’s effort to lead his side to the victory certainly gives a hope that his performance will surely give him a place in India’s squad very soon.

I congratulate Saurashtra for their stellar performance in Ranji Trophy, especially Jaydev Unadkat, who bowled crucial spells and picked 67 wickets in the mega event,” he said.

He should be included in India’s squad. In the IPL, he had already proved himself and now he has shown how useful he can be in the longest format of the game,” he further added.

Jaydev Unadkat

Jaydev Unadkat has so far played one Test, seven ODIs and 10 T20Is for India. But an injury left him out of the squad. Although after recovery, he was recalled in the T20 team, he failed to impress the team management and eventually was left out of the team.

On the other hand, Karsan Ghavri commented on the Saurashtra captain Jaydev Unadkat. The proud coach who took the side to the maiden Ranji trophy win said that Unadkat deserves another chance to represent India. He shared a plan as well where he said that the national selectors can keep Jaydev Unadkat in their mind in case they want to rest some players in the current circuit. He can be a handy option as well.

Unadkat made his debut in Tests way back in 2010 where he failed to take a wicket but his variation of pace and consistency can be beneficial for him in future.

As all the four national selectors watched the Ranji final, it will be interesting to see whether Jaydev Unadkat earn an India recall or his effort goes in vain.
