IPL 2023 : Ravi Ashwin asks youngsters to carry out Mankadding more than ever!
In the 2018 IPL, Ravichandran Ashwin controversially ran Jos Butler out at the bowler’s end. Five years later, the “cheating tag” associated with that type of dismissal has substantially diminished, and the name “Mankading” has been completely dropped from the cricket lexicon.
At Chinnaswamy Stadium on Monday, Harshal Patel attempted the identical manoeuvre against the Lucknow Super Giants but narrowly missed it. Ashwin, who was watching the game, claimed that Harshal had told his wife about running the non-striker out as he was rushing in to bowl the final ball!

“I was so happy to see a bowler having the guts to try that. More bowlers should try doing it. As long as it is within the rules, there is no harm in trying to use every trick in the book to win a game. In 2019, Punjab Kings would have qualified for the playoffs if they ran Rahul Chahar out.” Ashwin said.
Ashwin is quite passionate about this type of run-out because he thinks that in T20 cricket, bowlers have a lot more to cope with than batsmen. The elite offie, although having experience in all formats of cricket, occasionally thinks that the deck is set too severely against him when playing T20 cricket.
I sometimes compare myself to a baseball pitcher. Simply put, I long for the extra few steps a batsman takes when at bat but the bowler does not. In T20 cricket, where the par score is increasing daily, the entire team management must step up to the plate in order to stem the run flow. Dhoni frequently advises people to remain present. Although little, it is quite important. I endeavour to accomplish that.”
