The Indian Premier League (IPL) employs both Indian and international umpires for its matches. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has a panel of umpires from which the IPL umpires are selected.

In addition to Indian umpires, the IPL also employs umpires from other countries, such as Australia, England, and South Africa, among others. These umpires are usually appointed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and are experienced in officiating in international matches.

The role of the umpires in IPL is to ensure that the game is played in accordance with the laws of cricket and to make decisions on the field of play. They have the authority to make decisions on a wide range of issues, including decisions about run-outs, stumpings, LBWs, and catches.

The IPL also has a system of technology-based decision-making, including the Decision Review System (DRS) and the Snickometer, to assist the on-field umpires in making accurate decisions. However, the final decision always rests with the on-field umpire.

Umpires also ensure that the game is played in a fair and sportsmanlike manner. They are responsible for monitoring the behavior of players and for enforcing the laws that govern the game. Umpires can issue warnings or penalties to players who breach these laws, such as for showing dissent or using inappropriate language.

In addition to their on-field duties, umpires are also responsible for conducting pre-match inspections of the pitch and the equipment. They ensure that the pitch is fit for play and that the equipment, such as the ball, is in good condition.

In this years IPL , there have been numerous number of Umpires from different regions of the world. Two panels have been selected, Elite panel and developing umpires. Ravi, Vineet Kulkarni, Yashwant Barde,Richard Illingworth (Eng), Paul Reiffel (Aus), and Christopher Gaffaney (NZ), Ulhas Gandhe, Anil Dandekar, K Srinivasan, and Pashchim Pathak.
