Afghanistan skipper Asghar Afghan equals the record of legendary Indian skipper, MS Dhoni, for winning most matches in T20 International to date as Captain.

He achieved this feat after his side’s clinical performance against Zimbabwe in the ongoing three-match T20 series in Abu Dhabi.

As far as the overall record of Captaincy is concerned Dhoni has registered 41 wins in his T20 International career out of the 72 matches. The former Indian skipper has led the side from 2007 to 2016.  Under his leadership, Indian won the 2007 Inaugural edition of T20 World Cup.

However, Afghan record as skipper is much more impressive in terms of the win-loss ratio is concerned where he has won 41 matches out of only 51 matches he has captained till date.

Afghan win percentage 81.37 is much higher than the former Indian counterpart who has the winning percentage of 59.28 as skipper.

Former Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed comes second in the list of winning percentage in T20 format as skipper with 78.37.

Afghanistan’s series win against Zimbabwe will be a big morale boost for them in their preparations for the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, which will be held in India. In the second match, Usman Ghani (49 runs off 34 balls), Mohammad Nabi (40 runs off 15 balls) and Karim Janat (53 runs off 38 balls) helped Afghanistan’s score to 193 for 5.

Afghan after registering his 41st victory as skipper praise his teammates for superb display against Zimbabwe and specially mentioned the role of Ghani and Janat which laid a good foundation.

“T20s are very important for us with the World Cup coming. Morale is high if you win. Today Karim and Usman’s partnership was really good,” Asghar said.
