Ankit Jaglan is a rising Indian kabaddi defender who has carved his path from a small village in Haryana to representing India at the Asian Games 2026 in Japan. Born on July 20, 1999, in Nauhra village of Panipat district, Haryana, Ankit’s journey exemplifies determination and the power of grassroots sports development in India.

Early Life : 

Ankit hails from Nauhra, a modest village in Panipat, Haryana—the state renowned as India’s kabaddi heartland. Remarkably, no one in his family had a kabaddi background; he is the first and only kabaddi player from his household.

His introduction to the sport came at age 9, when he began watching seniors play kabaddi in his village and school grounds. Fascinated by the game, he started playing around 2012-13, accompanying a neighbor to local grounds where he gradually developed his skills.

In 2016-17, Ankit’s talent earned him selection for Haryana’s Junior Nationals team in Patna. This breakthrough led to his induction into the Sports Authority of India (SAI) center in Sonepat, where he trained for two years. By 2019, he secured a government job, providing financial stability while continuing his kabaddi career. He also played for the Red Army team before catching the attention of Pro Kabaddi League scouts.

Domestic Career: 

Ankit’s domestic career progressed through state and national-level competitions. After his SAI training, he represented Haryana in multiple state championships and also played for Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh state teams. His consistent performances in domestic tournaments, including the Haryana Youth Championship and National University Games, established him as a promising defensive prospect.

Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) Journey: 

Ankit Jaglan’s PKL story is one of rapid ascent. He made his league debut with Telugu Titans in Season 8, where he proved himself as a reliable all-round defender. Over two seasons with Telugu Titans (PKL 8 and 9), he accumulated valuable experience, scoring 63 raid points and 40 tackle points across 27 matches.

The turning point came at the PKL 2023 auction (Season 10), where Patna Pirates acquired him for ₹31.5 lakh—a remarkable sum for a Category D player—sparking a bidding war among franchises. This made him one of the highest-paid defenders in that auction category.

With Patna Pirates, Ankit flourished as a left-corner defender. In Season 10, he earned 66 points in 23 matches with a 45% tackle success rate. By Season 11, he elevated his game further, scoring 79 points in 25 matches with an improved 51% tackle success rate and 8 Super Tackles. His leadership qualities emerged, and ahead of PKL Season 12 (2025), he was named Patna Pirates captain, signing a ₹1.573 crore contract—the highest-paid all-rounder in the league.

Across his PKL career spanning 70+ matches, Ankit has earned 196 total points, primarily through defensive contributions with 179 successful tackles, 17 Super Tackles, and 11 High 5s. His tackle success rate stands at approximately 46%, with an average of 2.55 successful tackles per match.

Asian Games Participation: 

Ankit Jaglan’s international breakthrough arrived with his selection to India’s men’s kabaddi squad for Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. He was named as a specialist left-corner defender alongside experienced campaigner Sunil Kumar (captain) and other PKL stars like Pawan Sehrawat, Arjun Deshwal, and Ayan Lohchab.

This selection marks Ankit’s Asian Games debut, making him one of eight first-time Asian Games players in India’s 12-member squad. Only four players from India’s gold-winning 2022 Hangzhou team returned, highlighting the trust management placed in emerging talents like Ankit.

Ankit Jaglan is a fantastic defender and credit should be given to him for his brilliant game play at the fore, and his defensive prowess makes him one of the biggest player to watch out for in the Upcoming marquee event.
