Hurricanes may have won the match but Yusuf Pathan and Ravi Bopara almost took the Joburg Buffaloes to victory with their blazing innings against the Hurricanes in the Zim Afro T10 on Monday. Bopara top-scored with his brilliant unbeaten 39-run inning off 19 balls, while Pathan scored a quick 20 off just 9 balls. However, the Buffaloes fell short by mere 2 runs.
The Hurricanes batted first and scored 106 for 6 in their 10 overs. Pathan and Bopara then came to bat for the Buffaloes and got off to a brilliant comeback. They put on a key partnership and almost led their team to win.
Bopara was the aggressor in the partnership, hitting 2 sixes and 3 fours. Pathan played the supporting role, scoring a quick 20 off 9 balls. However, after Pathan was dismissed in the fourth over, the Buffaloes lost wickets at regular intervals and were unable to reach the target.
Both batters strived in the match but somehow failed to take their team to a win by just a 2-run whisker.
Despite the loss, the Buffaloes will be encouraged by the performances of Pathan and Bopara. The two experienced batsmen showed that they can still be destructive in T10 cricket. The Buffaloes will need them to fire if they want to qualify for the playoffs.
The Hurricanes, on the other hand, will be happy with their win. They have now won major matches and are in a commanding place in the table. They will be looking to continue their good form in the next match.
