The first ball of the T20 World Cup 2024 is only a week away from us as we gear up for the upcoming marquee event with a lot of hopes and expectations. The T20 extravaganza is predicted to be real fun this time around because 20 teams are a part of the tournament and all of them are playing quality cricket. Today, we will discuss which teams could prove to be the underdogs and spoil the party of other teams from each group in the league stage of the T20 World Cup 2024.
Ireland
The Irish cricket team has proved to be an underdog in almost every ICC tournament and has grown a lot in stature in the past few years in the world of cricket. They are grouped with India, Pakistan, the USA, and Canada in the forthcoming T20 World Cup, and we expect them to make at least one upset. They recently beat Pakistan in a T20I match and could repeat the same in the tournament.

Scotland
If you are grouped with Australia, England, Namibia, and Oman in the T20 World Cup group, you will be scared about your chances in the tournament. But you won’t be if you are Scotland. The Scottish cricket team has beaten England multiple times in T20 World Cup history and registered an upset. If there is a team that can be the most dangerous as an underdog, it is Scotland.
AfghanistanÂ
With the kind of spin bowling contingent they have, Afghanistan can also prove to be a real threat to the teams in their group. They are partnered with Uganda, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, and the West Indies, and it would not be a surprise to anyone in the cricket fraternity if they make it to the next round from this group.

NetherlandsÂ
The teams in Group D are South Africa, Sri Lanka, the Netherlands, Bangladesh, and Nepal. Everyone would normally say that South Africa and Sri Lanka are the strongest teams here, but counting the Netherlands out is a mistake you don’t want to make. The Netherlands are a phenomenal side when it comes to the T20 format, and with their history of beating South Africa in the past two consecutive ICC tournaments, we are not ruling them out.
