India’s grunting 6 run loss against Australia in the semi-final of the ICC Women’s T20 world cup 2023 will haunt the memories of not only the players but also countless fans. After the massive development of Women’s cricket in India, the Women in Blue were expected to win the WC but they will have to wait a little longer.

India had very high expectations, particularly after Shafali Verma’s U-19 team won the inaugural ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup, which was also held in South Africa. However, Meg Lanning’s team was able to secure their place in the championship game and their sixth ICC T20 World Cup victory thanks to poor fielding and bowling efforts.

Australia had won the toss at Newlands and chose to bat first. Sneh Rana replaced Pooja Vastrakar in India’s lineup. Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney got the Australians off to a flying start before Radha Yadav removed the former for 25 off 26.

The Aussies reached 172 and gave India a competitive target to chase. Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues tried to form a combination, but the latter was out for 43 after feathering an unplayable bouncer. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur was the only batter to reach 50, but her innings was cut short by an unfortunate run-out.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s run-out incident was compared to MS Dhoni’s run-out against New Zealand in 2019 World cup final. ICC also posted a video of both the incidents and Indian cricket fans are not having it.
