The Rise of Esports: Exploring its Growth and Popularity

Esports, the future, the present—there’s no doubt in the fact that the dominance of eSports is yet to come, but in some parts of the world it’s already there.

The popularity of online gaming is compounding day by day, and surely there is no stoppage. Games like Valorant, GTA, Dota 2, PUBG Mobile, etc. are dominating in competitive scenarios as well as in viewership.

We all might have heard about the game Counter-Strike (CS:GO), which created records when it comes to tournament viewerships. Counter-Strike has evolved great eSports athletes such as Shroud.

Well, all this ecosystem is rapidly and steadily rising with the advancement of technology and with the change in preferences of younger generations.

Nowadays, kids are more into competitive gaming than just playing games for fun, which is eventually boosting the rise of eSports. Countries like China, the USA, Japan, etc. are promoting eSports on a large scale, and that is what is acting as a helping hand for the growth of the online gaming industry.

Talking about the esports scenario in India, honestly, the whole Indian gaming community is currently dependent on only one game, which is BGMI.

When BGMI was banned, it was observed that there was a massive dip in terms of viewership and the competitive environment as well. Few organisations like Global Esports were performing well in Valorant at the international level, but other than that, there wasn’t an effective impact from any other organisation in Esports.

Indian gaming creators need to understand that relying only on one game isn’t going to fire up the growth of Indian eSports.

There is no doubt that creators like Mortal and Scout have represented India at the international level and showcased that there is potential in the Indian eSports community as well to perform well at the global level, but this has to be followed by every other gaming athlete in the Indian gaming community, and then only the rise of Indian eSports will gain pace and grow exponentially.

And also, the government needs to realise the potential of Indian eSports and make certain required investments in order to help in the growth of this industry
