T20 World Cup 2021: India to face arch-rivals Pakistan in Super 12 round of upcoming marquee event

The International Cricket Council knows how to catch eyeballs of fans in every world cup tournament that they conduct by placing two arch-rivals India and Pakistan in the same group for the Super 12 round of T20 World Cup 2021 as expected as two cricketing nations who have a rich legacy of producing star players don’t play bilateral series due to political tension between two countries in last few years.

However, ICC has just clarified that teams have been placed in groups based on rankings till 20th March 2021.

Group 1 will have Australia, England, South Africa, and West Indies along with two qualifying teams from the first round of qualifiers will join them whereas Group 2 will have India, Pakistan, New Zealand, and Afghanistan along with the other 2 qualifiers in the mega event which will be played in UAE.

ICC acting chief executive Geoff Allardice talked about ICC T20 World Cup 2021 fixture in detail.

“We are delighted to announce the groups for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021. There are some great matchups offered by the groups and it starts to bring the event to life for our fans as our first multi-team event since the onset of the global pandemic draws closer.

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is excited about the upcoming T20 World Cup as despite the marquee event will not take place in India but they are still the host of the tournament.

“It is good to get Oman in the frame of world cricket with the hosting of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. It will help a lot of young players take an interest in the game. We know it will be a world-class event in this part of the world.”
