“Sack Coach Gambhir if India Fails to Defend……” Former India Cricketer Demands Head Coach Removal Post Marquee Event

The T20 World Cup 2026 is all set to start from 7th Feb 2026 in India and Sri Lanka where the best teams in the world would compete against each other for the marquee event.

India being defending champions currently based on the template they are firm favorites to defend this title.

Former India Cricketer Manoj Tiwary, have expressed his hard reactions, on Coach Gautam Gambhir under whom India recently loss ODI Series against New Zealand.

” I think if India fails to defend T20 World Cup, then BCCI will have to take this decision”

“It will be tough decision because the BCCI Secretary has said that Gambhir will fulfil their contract till 2027 so they won’t remove him. But considering all permutations and combinations, BCCI will have to take call on Gambhir’s Future after T20 World Cup” said Tiwary while talking to Inside Sport.

A counter question came From Anchor on who should replace, him to which he said “VVS Laxman is ideal choice to replace him it has to be process driven thing if Gambhir is not with Indian team you always see Laxman stepping up so ideally he is the perfect choice going forward. I feel BCCI should consider him he is a level headed guy and Good human being as well. He has that coaching experience as well” concluded Tiwary.

The Upcoming Marquee event is already marred with controversies, where Bangladesh have said no for world cup and scotland have replaced him.

Doing dwell into further, Pakistan is also planning to Boycott India match where full clarity on this matter would come in few days time.

More Details about T20 World Cup 2026:

As the countdown to the T20 World Cup 2026 begins, the build-up to the marquee event has already taken an intense turn—both on and off the field. While India enter the tournament as defending champions and clear favourites, the pressure on the team management, especially head coach Gautam Gambhir, is steadily mounting.

India’s recent ODI series loss against New Zealand has raised serious questions around team selection, tactical clarity, and leadership under Gambhir’s coaching regime. Though T20 cricket is a different format altogether, results in bilateral series often influence public perception and internal decision-making within the BCCI. Manoj Tiwary’s remarks reflect a growing sentiment among former cricketers that major ICC events remain the ultimate benchmark for evaluating a coach’s tenure.

The former India batter’s suggestion of VVS Laxman as a potential replacement is particularly noteworthy. Laxman has been closely associated with Indian cricket’s ecosystem over the last few years, frequently stepping in as interim head coach during Gambhir’s absence and overseeing several successful tours. His calm demeanour, player-first approach, and experience with India A and junior teams make him a strong contender if the BCCI is forced to rethink its long-term coaching strategy post the World Cup.

However, the situation is further complicated by off-field controversies surrounding the tournament. Bangladesh’s withdrawal from the T20 World Cup and Scotland’s subsequent inclusion has already disrupted the tournament structure. Such last-minute changes not only affect group dynamics but also raise questions about scheduling, logistics, and competitive balance—especially in a multi-nation ICC event.

Adding to the uncertainty, the Pakistan Cricket Board is reportedly considering boycotting matches against India, citing political and administrative concerns. While official clarity is still awaited, any such move could have massive implications for the tournament’s commercial value, fan engagement, and overall narrative. An India–Pakistan clash remains the biggest draw in world cricket, and its absence would significantly impact broadcasters and sponsors.

For India, the focus remains clear: defend the title on home soil and silence doubts around leadership and coaching. But as history has shown, ICC tournaments often act as inflection points for major decisions. A successful campaign could cement Gambhir’s position till 2027 as promised by the BCCI, while a failure—especially at home—might force the board to reconsider its stance despite long-term commitments.
With just days to go before the first ball is bowled, the T20 World Cup 2026 is shaping up to be more than just a cricket tournament. It could redefine careers, reshape Indian cricket’s leadership, and test the ICC’s ability to manage global cricketing politics under intense scrutiny.
