Pakistan team management wanted Shaheen Afridi to rest;pacer turned down request

The Pakistan team management wanted Shaheen Shah Afridi to take a rest in the recently concluded series against South Africa where Men in Green won both the ODI and T20 International match against Proteas.

But the boys in Green has been criticized to not giving rest to speedster who is constantly playing for his national side in last few years to which PCB management said that we have asked the pacer to take rest but the speedster denied and said he wants to play all the matches on the South African tour.

However, Afridi performance against the recently concluded tour came under the scanner with the second-worst economy rate of 6.57 among his fellow teammates, and in the four-match T20 International series he clinched only three wickets and leaked runs at the rate of 8.86.

As per the latest reports from Cricket Pakistan, Afridi will be given rest in the upcoming Zimbabwe tour as Pakistan team will be playing three T20 International and Two test match and all the matches will be played at Harare Sports Club.

Previously, Aqib Javed, the former Pakistan fast bowler, also wished for Shaheen to not play every other match.

“It is injustice with Shaheen to make him play every match. Pakistan team should manage his workload carefully. They should not play him when the team has lost the series or adopt a proper rotation policy. Shaheen should only play those matches which are important,” Javed had said.

He also reacted on the comparison question asked between Afridi and Bumrah who is the better player to which the former said that  Shaheen is better than Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. However, the veteran called Bumrah a better bowler in the death overs.

“[Jasprit] Bumrah is a really good bowler who is good at everything. Right, now he is better than Shaheen [Afridi] in terms of death bowling. Although, with the new ball, Shaheen is ahead of him,” Javed mentioned.
