Major League Cricket recognized as official T20 League
Major League Cricket (MLC) has achieved a major milestone, becoming the second Associate Franchise Tournament (after the UAE’s International League T20) to be awarded List A status by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
What Does List A Status Mean?
This prestigious status acknowledges MLC as a legitimate T20 league. Here’s what it means for the sport in the USA:
- Official Recognition: MLC is now officially recognized as a high-quality T20 tournament.
- Player Stats Matter: Player performances in the MLC will now be used to calculate their official T20 cricket statistics. This is a big deal for players, as it reflects their skills and achievements on a global scale.
- Boost for American Cricket: The ICC’s recognition validates the growing stature and credibility of cricket in the USA.
“A Unique Opportunity” for American Cricket
Justin Geale, the MLC Tournament Director, expressed his delight at the news. He highlighted the importance of this recognition for both players and the sport in the USA:
- Fair Representation for Players: “It ensures the performances of some of the world’s best players alongside their peers are adequately reflected in their career statistics.” This means players’ achievements in the MLC will be accurately counted towards their overall T20 records.
- Cricket Growth in the US: “Cricket in the USA doesn’t always fit into a template… We are an Associate nation and proud of that, one with a unique opportunity in front of us.” Geale acknowledges the unique position of the US as a developing cricketing nation and sees this recognition as a springboard for further growth.
Major League Cricket Season 2
