“Archer underwent further scans on his injured right elbow yesterday in the UK which confirmed a low-grade stress fracture,” the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said in a statement.

“He will now commence an injury rehabilitation program with the ECB medical team with a view to be ready for the international summer campaign starting in June against West Indies in a three-match Test series,” the statement added.

Archer is back home from South Africa where his injured elbow saw him miss the final three Tests of England’s 3-1 series win over the Proteas.

After this, the team will play a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka which will commence from March 19.

He is part of the IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals but now he will not take part in the upcoming 2020 season. Archer was bought by the franchise in the 2018 auction for INR 7.6 crore (US $1.125 million) and proved he was worth every penny as he became their go-to bowler.

In 2019, Archer had to leave the tournament after 11 matches for national duty ahead of the World Cup. Currently, the team has other bowlers in the likes of Andrew Tye, Tom Curran and Oshane Thomas and the Indian contingent includes Jaydev Unadkat, Ankit Rajpoot and Kartik Tyagi. But despite a pool of talented bowlers in their ranks, RR will miss Jofra whose economy rate of 4.75 in the Powerplay in IPL 2019 was the second-best in the tournament. He has been one of the best foreign recruits in the tournament.
